The Greater Richmond Companies to Watch ("GRCTW") program was created by Carl Johnson of NBI Advisors to promote the entrepreneurial environment of the Greater Richmond area by highlighting a critical mass of early stage businesses deemed to have high growth potential. By highlighting the companies individually - and the area collectively - the hope was to attract additional attention to the area from angel investors and the outside venture capital community.

The GRCTW is a predictive event, often selecting seed and early stage companies that have not attracted institutional funding. From the first twenty four selections,

2 sold for a combined $84 million

4 raised venture capital rounds

4 raised angel funding greater than $1 million

this all occurred AFTER being selected.

The GRCTW promotes many constituencies. Entrepreneurial companies with high growth potential receive publicity from the event from the four color printed brochures that are distributed and e-mailed to financing sources and from publications such as Work Magazine, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and other media outlets. The GRCTW is the signature event for the Venture Forum, a business networking organization in the Richmond area. Sponsors receive tremendous value by being recognized as a partner to entrepreneurial companies via the event, the brochures and the event publicity which is sent to thousands of members of various partnering business organizations.

If you would like to be involved in the 2008 GRCTW, as a sponsor, volunteer or selected company, please contact Carl Johnson at cjohnson@nbiadvisors.com
